An eclipse is an extraordinary natural event that has the
energy to attract a lot of attention and totally fixate its audience. It is
essentially a shift of power that presents a new perspective. This is the goal
of "Eclipse: A Fashion Show and Art Gala" presentation brought to you by the
RLS Activities Coordinators.
Tyra Banks show-stopping in Gucci. Heidi Klum dazzling in De La Renta. Giselle
Bndchen glowing in Balenciaga. The fashion world is renowned for featuring
high-end designer fashion adorned on some of the incredibly beautiful and
sometimes too-skinny models. Eclipse hopes to stick to that same reputation of
glitz and glamour but with one small change.
"In a world where people often think of models as extremely skinny females,
we're making a statement to change that," said Eclipse co-ordinator, Mike
Plumton. "We're putting the fashion scene in a twist and really demonstrating
that anyone of any gender, shape or size can be a model."
He stresses the key element to be a great model is confidence.
The show's 25 models are bridled with not just confidence, but passion and
determination to succeed. These glamorous participants were selected from a
pool of over 60 contenders through a series of auditions, interviews and
walking challenges.
Most of these models may be brand new to the world of fashion, but their
performance on the runway promises to be just as good as the industry's
professionals. They have put many hours into training and practising their
runway presence and are now enthusiastically anticipating their university
fashion debut.
The items featured in the show will come from fashion lines donated from local
stores and will have the unique feature of hosting original designer works.
One of the designers is Samantha C.
Twiss,
a graduate from Seneca College's School of Fashion Arts program and an
up-and-coming fashion designer.
Twiss
designed and created new outfits exclusively for this show.
Also featured in the show are clothes donated by Barrie-based stylist Sandra
Roberts. As owner of the downtown boutique Imago, she will be donating outfits
from her store that will provide a unique edgy and trendy style in the theme
of the night's presentation.
The night is packed with plenty of entertainment for all attending. Upon
entrance, guests will have the opportunity to view art pieces showcasing work
done by Brock students and other local artists. They will be entertained with
live music performances which will feature an exclusive performance by Brock's
Rez Idol winners Tiffany Moss and Becca Cartmell. Also taking place that
night, guests have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction with all
proceeds generated being donated to a local charity.
"[Many] hours of work has gone into creating this show by the activities
coordinators and the models," said Plumton. "Fashion shows don't come often to
Brock, especially ones of this nature. We've worked so hard to bring something
high class and high quality that students could experience."
With places sectioned off for VIP, a red carpet being rolled out, mega-watt
lighting, and a thumping soundtrack, the night is set to be like any other
star-studded fashion show.
"We have model scouts coming, a photographer from Toronto and professional
hair and makeup people," Plumton said. "With some art, some food and a lot of
really great fashion, this moves from just an ordinary event to a large scale
one that everyone [will be] talking about."
Eclipse will take place on March 9 in the Pond Inlet. Doors open at 7 p.m.,
and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for sitting and $3 for
standing.
